QUINCY, Ill. — The Quincy Country Club is preparing for something that has never been done before, a golf tournament with a bit of a twist.
They will host the inaugural Sugar Cookie Open, and no these aren't the homemade cookies your mom may have made you in the kitchen.
"The Sugar Cookie Golf Tournament is a brand new concept,” said tournament creator and former NAVY Seal Jared Ogden. “As far as I know, it's never been done. It's something that I dreamed up a long time ago, and my wife and I decided 'hey let’s do it.' if we don't do it now, we're not going to do it."
The Sugar Cookie Open will be an 18-hole tournament, Navy Seal style.
The term ‘sugar cookie’ in military terms is when a student runs fully clothed to a surf zone and then, wet from head to toe, rolls around in the sand until they are covered with sand and from their they continue on with their daily tasks.
This concept will be seen at the Quincy Country Club in October.
"There's an exhibition hole and so that's the sugar cookie hole,” Ogden said. “What we will have set up is a hose up in the parking lot of the Quincy Country Club and we're going to hose everybody down, and then we will have sand right there in the parking lot stage. So, you get hosed down, from head to toe, soaking wet, run to the sand and then make your sugar cookie and then run back to the range and then shoot your ball. It's going to be 155 yards closest to the pin."
The winner of the Sugar Cookie Hole will receive a $700 Dive watch by S&D Watches.
Participants in the tournament and the exhibition hole will have opportunities to win over $6,000 worth of prizes throughout the day and everyone is invited to come enjoy a nice day at the course.
However, the best part about this tournament is giving back to those who fought for our country.
"Anytime that we as a community have the chance to serve those who have served us is a good day. So, it's absolutely important that we honor, and especially the guys who have sacrificed life and limb, to remember that sacrifice."
